Using an Amazon Kindle Fire (1st Generation)

(The Kindle Fire we used for our testing was a 1st generation with Wi-Fi.)

Do books and samples work on Amazon's Kindle Fire?

Yes! The Kindle Fire can easily view all of our eBooks and samples.

How do I put eBooks onto my Kindle Fire from my Mac?
You have three options, outlined below. You can: 1) use Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” application; 2) e-mail the eBooks as attachments to your Kindle Fire; or 3) transfer your eBooks via USB cable.

  1. Easiest option: Download Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” application for your home computer. As quoted from source: Amazon.com.
    • Head to Amazon's "Send to Kindle for Mac" page.
    • Download the application. Icon should appear in your dock following download.
    • Register your Kindle Fire with the application.
    • To move your eBooks from your computer to your Kindle Fire using the “Send to Kindle” application, there are three options:
      • Drag and drop one or more of your eBook PDF’s on to the “Send to Kindle” icon in your Dock, or launch the application and drag and drop one or more eBooks on to it.
      • From any Mac application that can print (ie. Adobe), select the print menu and choose “Send to Kindle” (located under “Printer” button).
      • From Finder, simply control-click on your eBook PDF and choose “Send to Kindle.”
    • Please allow a few minutes for the download to complete.
  2. E-mail your eBooks using the specific e-mail address assigned to your Kindle Fire:
    • To find out the specific e-mail address assigned to your Kindle Fire:
      • Go to amazon.com.
      • Under your account, click on “Manage Your Kindle.”
      • On the left side of the page, under the heading “Your Kindle Account,” click on “Personal Document Settings.”
      • Your Kindle Fire address is listed alongside your name.
    • Open your preferred e-mail account (must be one used for registration of your Kindle Fire).
      • Note: You can authorize other e-mail addresses under “Personal Document Settings” (located under “Manage Your Kindle” on amazon.com).
      • Attach the eBook PDF to the e-mail, and send the e-mail to your Kindle Fire’s e-mail address.
      • Please allow a few minutes for a complete download.
  3. Transfer your eBooks via USB cable:
    • Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer via the USB cable.
    • Open up the Kindle Fire from the icon on your desktop.
    • Place the eBooks you would like to transfer into the file named "documents" on the Kindle Fire.
    • Eject your Kindle Fire from your desktop and access the book. (When you first open a new document, it may take a few moments for the file to be fully processed and ready to read on the Kindle Fire.)

      • From Windows Explorer, simply right click on one or more of your eBook PDF’s and choose “Send to Kindle.”

How do I access samples from the Kindle Fire’s Web access?

  1. Click on the download sample button located on a specific product page.
  2. View sample as displayed.
  3. Please note all samples downloaded will be contained in the Downloads folder, which is located within the home button (appears as three lines contained in a three sided square) located at the bottom of your Kindle Fire’s web pages.

Do Enhanced eBooks also work on the Kindle Fire?
Yes! Enhanced eBooks from our store are also PDFs, so just follow the same instructions to transfer them to your Kindle Fire. However, please note that the “enhanced” features of the eBooks will likely NOT work on any Kindle device at this time.

Can I listen to audiobooks and MP3 files I purchase on my Kindle Fire?

Yes! The Kindle Fire can easily play MP3 and audio files from our eStore.

Can I use all the software I buy on my Kindle Fire?

No. Unfortunately, Interactive Whiteboard products, and other software does not work on the Kindle Fire at this time.

Can I buy and download eBooks, audiobooks and MP3 files directly from my Kindle Fire?

No. While you can surf our site on Kindle Fire's browser and download samples, at this point you are unable to download products from our eStore directly onto your Kindle Fire. Instead, purchase them as you normally would on your computer, then transfer them over using one of the options listed above.
